Author Guidelines

These guidelines provide essential information for authors preparing manuscripts for submission. Adherence to these guidelines will ensure a smooth review process and timely publication.

  1. Manuscript Submission

Authors should submit their manuscripts electronically, ensuring all required components are included as outlined below.

  1. Manuscript Length
  • Full-length manuscripts should ideally range between 3,500 and 7,500 words.
  • Brief Communications, focusing on highly topical issues, are also encouraged and should not exceed 1,500 words.
  1. Formatting and Style
  • Font:

Main text: Times New Roman, 12pt.

Article Title: Times New Roman, 14pt.

  • Headings:

Main Section Headings: Capitalized and bold.

Sub-headings: Bold and in Title Case (upper-lower case).

  1. Manuscript Structure
  2. First Page The first page of your manuscript must include the following:
  • Title of the Article
  • Author(s) Name(s) and Affiliation(s)
  • Complete Contact Address(es), including email address(es).
  1. Second Page The second page should contain:
  • Title of the Article (repeated)
  • Abstract
  • Keywords
  • Main text of the article
  1. Abstract and Keywords
  • Abstract: The abstract should be between 200 and 500 words and provide a concise summary of your research. It should clearly state the purpose, scope, objectives, methodology, findings, and/or practical applications of the paper.
  • Keywords: Provide informative keywords that are not already present in the title or abstract. These should help readers and search engines find your article.
  1. Figures, Charts, and Diagrams

All figures, charts, and diagrams should be integrated within the main text at the appropriate points. Ensure they are:

  • Submitted in common image formats such as .tif, .gif, .jpeg, or .bmp.
  • Sized to fit within a page width of 15cm.
  1. Citations and References (APA 7th Edition)

Authors are required to adhere strictly to the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition style for all in-text citations and reference list entries.

  1. In-text Citations:
  • General Format: (Author, Year) or Author (Year).

Example: (Smith, 2020) or Smith (2020).

  • Multiple Authors:

Two authors: (Author & Author, Year)

      • Example: (Smith & Jones, 2021)

Three or more authors: (First Author et al., Year)

      • Example: (Smith et al., 2022)
  • Specific Page Numbers: When quoting directly or referring to a specific part of a source, include page numbers.

Example: (Smith, 2020, p. 45) or (Jones, 2019, pp. 112-115).

  1. Reference List: A comprehensive reference list, titled "References," should be provided at the end of the manuscript on a new page. All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all entries in the reference list must be cited in the text.
  • General Guidelines:

References should be listed alphabetically by the first author's last name.

Use a hanging indent for each reference (the first line of each reference is flush left, and subsequent lines are indented 0.5 inches).

Italicize titles of books, journals, and volume numbers.

Include DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers) when available.

  • Examples of Common Reference Types:

Journal Article: Author, A. A., Author, B. B., & Author, C. C. (Year). Title of article. Title of Periodical, volume(issue), pages. DOI

      • Example: Ojo, L. N., & Adeyemi, R. (2023). The impact of digital literacy on economic development in Nigeria. Journal of African Studies, 25(3), 123-138. https://doi.org/xxxxxxx

Book: Author, A. A. (Year). Title of work. Publisher.

      • Example: Eze, F. C. (2021). Community-based approaches to sustainable development. University Press.

Chapter in an Edited Book: Author, A. A. (Year). Title of chapter. In E. E. Editor (Ed.), Title of book (pp. pages). Publisher.

      • Example: Ndubuisi, K. L. (2022). Challenges of rural healthcare in developing economies. In P. M. Okoro (Ed.), Global health disparities (pp. 78-95). Academic Press.

Website/Online Document: Author, A. A. (Year, Month Day). Title of document. Site name. URL

  1. Reference Management Software: Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference management software (e.g., Zotero, Mendeley, EndNote) to manage their citations and format their reference list according to APA 7th Edition guidelines. This will help ensure accuracy and consistency.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • This submission meets the requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness following the  APA 7th edition format
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and properly labelled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
