Academic Library Services and its Impact on Research in Faculty of Education Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Nigeria

This study investigated academic library services and its impact on research in faculty of education Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Nigeria. The study adopted the survey research design and was guided by two research objectives. Quantitative research design was adopted for the study. Questionnaire was used to collect data from 93 academic staff of Faculty of Education Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and 71 copies of the questionnaire were returned, representing approximately 58 % used for data analysis. The data was analyzed descriptively using simple percentage, mean and standard deviation with a benchmark of 3.00. The findings revealed that: Library services are readily available for faculty members in Faculty of Education (mean=3.52), research support services are highly utilized by faculty members in Faculty of Education as indicated by mean of 3.56 which was greater than the benchmark of 3.00. Based on the findings it was concluded that faculty members utilize research support services provided by the library to enhance their research activities; however, the level of utilization varies across the different services available. It was therefore recommended that, citation styles, support services, plagiarism and originality check services should be put in place for use. Researchers should improve on the utilization of research clinic, high impact journal publication other than depending on a single library service for research purposes. Also, faculty members should find other library services relevant for their research purposes.
